Joining the Vanguard of Defense Communications
Introducing our newly appointed board member, General (Ret.) Jim McConville.
A key figure in the modernisation of the U.S. Army, armed with strategic expertise, we’re delighted to welcome the former 40th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, General (Ret.) James “Jim” McConville, as a Non-Executive Board Member for ALL.SPACE.
It’s the hands-on, highly experienced experts like Jim who’ll drive our mission to deliver ubiquitous connectivity across space, land, air, and sea, forwards. We caught up with Jim to get his perspective on the move to the ALL.SPACE board.
How do you believe ALL.SPACE’s cutting-edge technologies will position the company to address emerging security and resilience challenges in the satellite communications landscape?
Resilient, capable SATCOM (satellite communications) systems play a vital role in modern defense operations. They facilitate timely decision-making and enhance operational effectiveness in dynamic and challenging environments.
Current command-and-control systems in the military require transformation to meet the demands of modern warfare. We have to move away from traditional, rigid solutions towards more agile and service-oriented models, which prioritise resilience, protection and stealth. ALL.SPACE’s solutions do just that, allowing the military to address immediate challenges — long range comms-on-the-move in contested, high intensity conflict zones — whilst preparing for future conflicts using emerging technologies.
What unique advantages does ALL.SPACE bring to modern military communication?
ALL.SPACE is unique in that it enables combined joint all domain command and control (CJADC2) by providing long range comms-on-the-move. By taking advantage of our multi-orbit satellites and multi-link capabilities, ALL.SPACE’s satcomms solutions will improve comms within the Forces, whilst increasing sovereign resilience.
With your extensive background in military and defense leadership Jim, how do you see ALL.SPACE’s advanced satellite communication solutions supporting mission-critical operations?
Tactical Command Posts face significant vulnerability and survivability challenges on the battlefield due to their size and electronic signature. In order to solve these problems, Command Posts of the future must be agile, able to operate on the move (quickly) and withstand enemy jamming and electronic warfare. They must be swift, scalable and inter-operable. To achieve this, SATCOM systems must be designed using the principles of multi-domain operations (MDO).
That’s where the ALL.SPACE SMART terminal comes in. The solution features an electronically steered antenna with optical digital beamforming technology to create a unified, always-on, communications-on-the-move (COTM) system. It’s supported by cutting-edge tech like AI-powered actionable intelligence and anti-jamming features. It’s a fully integrated, ruggedized, stealthy and easy-to-install terminal, which I believe makes it fit to operate in any high–intensity combat environment.
You played a pivotal role in the modernisation of the U.S. Army. How will you use this experience to help deliver ALL.SPACE’s ambitious vision?
Sustainable communications start and end with resiliency, and always-on connectivity. It’s a critical time to enable our defense with the tools needed to support the teams on the ground who are facing the challenges of modern warfare.
To make sure ALL.SPACE delivers exactly what’s needed to meet these challenges, we have to nurture strong partnerships within the industry — something I’m well versed in thanks to my previous roles. At the end of the day my goal is to connect our users with the right products — those which are designed to evolve and adapt alongside the threats they face. It’s this, combined with a deep understanding of next-gen tech, that gives me full confidence in the ALL.SPACE mission — to deliver more secure, mobile, and interconnected battlefield networks.
We’re looking forward to having Jim’s guidance as we advance on our mission to deliver the world’s next iteration of highly operational, secure, and resilient satellite communications.
